"I would like the idea of a development-group in which bikes can compete with each other without matching the rules - so let's see what people are able to build. Maybe if there are enough entries it can be a competition for an open class - not in power but in concept & design. Practical 2-seaters are also a very interesting class - not just scooters but also bigger 2-seater can take part - that could also lead to a consumer acceptance because some manufacturers plan to develop electric bikes - maybe as "everyday object", so a "2 seater near real-world road-bike" would be much more accepted on the market than a 30.000€ race bike for enthusiasts and that leads maybe to more acceptance and encouragement from big manufacturers (if this is wished) - just a thought."

"Oh yes that's a good point as well - we should expand the "50mm in front of the tire"-rule because every car has more than 50mm in front of the tire and this has nothing to do with security, so it could also be deleted or at least wide expanded to see maybe some innovations in bodywork design."

"Another idea would be a changing catalogue (like a wiki) in which teams and manufacturers can introduce their new solvings of different problems (or some new ideas/materals/products of eco-friendlyness for example) or new products on the market so that the teams are able to see and maybe can assimilate to their own bike - newest batteries, lighter material, more eco friendly "natural oil" and so on! This could lead to a more developing competition for the teams AND the manufacturers and is also an advertising rostrum for them (maybe new sponsors will be attracted)."

"Safety & Reality Reward "Equipped Award/Reward" Points - or a medal if the bike is equipped with braking light and a head light. > LED-Braking are very small and very cheap so that's not a problem. Headlight-rule has nothing to do with racing itself but could lead to energy-saving LED-headlights, new sponsors and would approach closer to a real range/bike-headlight-law in europe! Sure it is not necessary but it could be an interesting addition to the rules maybe not as a must have but as an option to show that the bike is comparable to a road-legal bike and sure this rule could be a very interesting tool for future-design!"

"That's a very good point - maybe that belongs to rewards... if a team creates energy en route in which way ever and it shows that it works, with a good efficiency, they should get a reward for this! So the motivation is bigger to just test those systems. :-)"

inventure commented on the idea "Aerodynamic - Streamlining".
"After a little research in aerodynamics (see other comment on streamlining) I have to make an addendum. The wing / winglets are maybe not that effective like on a car but I don't talk of 3x5 cm mini-wings that makes the bike fly... the idea was to install flat wings or bodyparts on the fairing that expand the aerodynamic efficiency of the whole hull, too. Maybe after mounting the "extension" the existing bodywork can be then used as one aerodynamic part without being a dustbin but with a lot better streamline."
Change Existing Rule - Aug 1 2010
"I just saw&realised the ongoing discussion about streamlining and the so called dustbin and want to share my opinion with you. I'm not a racer but I drive my naked bike the whole year... sometimes i drive a racebike and on that you have also a bad effect of side-winds - stronger than on my machine ... am I wrong? Does that mean that every racer should drive a naked bike on the track? Ok I don't really think so, but I think the discussion went in a wrong direction. If you have some points against, please explain clearly what a "dustbin" means for you because in my opinion todays fairings are nothing else than a very tight dustbin (like a swim suit) - easy example: take the Zero bikes - the showroom series for the public and compare it to the racing version - do you see any differences? So I don't have to say that aerodynamic is an important point in these days. Sure there are maybe some downsides until now but maybe someone get inspired by some ideas and went out with a better or optimized design (since 1950). "Things are spoken dead until you proof the opposite!" (free translation :-) therefore it might be good to allow more (not all), that innovation can be done or at least tested on the track! A rule can sound like this: Fairings can be mounted on the whole bike to optimize the aerodynamic/streamlining but you also have to consider (or a written concept about): 1.safety 2.side-winds 3.everyday suitability for possible production bikes A typical one-part egg shaped "dustbin" is not allowed, just under some special conditions e.g.! Another point/question is - why does todays fairings not include the gas handles? you could integrate a blinker for street legal use and you have a more aerodynamic shape and also a weather protection? This is a NEW competition and it's very good that there are NEW rules (hopefully :-)! If someone had not the time to search through the links, here are some different ideas of what a "dustbin"/big fairing also can look like: Relatively near to production bikes and a very good text on the companies page http://www.ecossespirit.com/Company.htm A little bit older but if someone want to rebuild it in a new form - why not? http://www.bikeweb.com/node/1549 Here something very aesthetic but also low & compact http://www.naumann-design.de/experiment/motorbike-yoroi/ >>>NOT A FEET FORWARD design but also a "closed" hull!? Recommended!!! (my favourite) http://www.bikeweb.com/node/1312 http://negatendo.net/kmc/files/others/feet_forward/ride_it_forever_000003.jpg http://negatendo.net/kmc/files/others/feet_forward/ride_it_forever_000002.jpg Do you maybe see some similarities here: http://www.bikeweb.com/node/405 and http://www.tesztmotor.hu/images/stories/DennyM/Magazin/Honda/2009/Honda_DN01_white.jpg Here another radical concept but I think some parts/forms make sense :-) http://www.bikeweb.com/node/701 http://www.bikeweb.com/node/978 http://www.bikeweb.com/node/746 http://www.bikeweb.com/node/1297"

"Lots of great ideas, ex925 and inventure. Getting the questions out there (about incentives) is a good start. I don't know if answers will be quickly given, but getting the powers that be to start thinking along these lines should hopefully start the ball rolling."

"Great idea - i would also appreciate a reward for safety potential or maybe innovation design. Because as some here said - This should not be a race just for top-speed and winning it should also be a race to improve the bikes, mass can buy with not just a big electric motor but a bunch of different new, interesting but affordable ideas & technologies! I would like to recommend the following page from an interesting project - not just because of the product BUT in the history part of the page (10 pages) you can nearly find any prototype/project built with a more streamlining body...! (including small pictures) EXCELLENT INVESTIGATION >>> http://www.castingconsultants.co.uk/concept-teca/History%20pages/history1.htm I also would really like to see some improvements in bodywork because this race should influence the future and bring some new ideas to life!"

"Many of the current entrants are indeed "one man bands" with "tiny budgets." Sometimes, they get attention from sponsors who end up paying for some of the expenses related to travel, sometimes not. And sometimes, it their bike/design shows promise, they get a battery company to offer them a replacement for their current battery with something that has a better weight/power ratio. I think the bar to entry is still pretty low in the sport. Classes are definitely in the works, though. See, also, the discussion on this subject on the "talk" pages of the wiki."
